Happy September from the Every Girl Team!
We hope that you are keeping safe and well! These last few months have been busy with trainings and it's been such a delight to see the team working so well together and bringing back so much positive feedback. The photo above was from our first meeting with the whole team (Left to right: Godfrey, Timothy, Ketty, Rose, Naomi and myself). It was so fun to get everyone together, as they often work so independently. We had a time of sharing positive feedback, as well as learning how we can continue to improve the project from some of the challenges that they had been observing in communities.
Rose and Godfrey continue running 4 menstrual health and pad training sessions and Ketty leading 1 training in a local school in a week. We have now trained teachers in 4 schools, despite the school closures due to teachers strikes and school holidays. It is really exciting to hear their feedback and to learn about the impact of their work.
One of the trainings, pictured above, was held in a JENGA project which support children who are malnourished and their parents. It was wonderful to hear that one of the Mum's had said:
"Now that I have this skill, I can make my own pads. Some months, disposable pads are too much money to buy and so this takes away the pressure"
I also loved hearing from Rose, that she had passed a lady who she had trained in the mountains sat teaching and making these pads with her daughters. It is so encouraging to hear how these trainings are positively impacting our communities!

Excitingly, one of the two groups who had been attending a 10 week course, run by Godfrey and Timothy, exploring topics such as 'Women's reproductive health" and "How to plan for a family", finished the training. There was much fun and excitement as the group of men and women received their certificates for becoming Women's Health Ambassadors in their communities and celebrated with a soda! For many in the areas we are training in, they did not have the opportunity to complete school and so is often the first certificate they have received. We are excited to see the impact of this vital knowledge upon our communities.
Naomi continues sewing period underwear and we are nearly at a stage where we can begin selling them in communities. It has been really helpful to hear feedback from our testers such as:
"They are so comfortable, they work well and I no longer have rashes like I used to get from disposable pads"
makes us more and more excited to be able to sell these at a reduced rate in the community!
